Origin Story (and Reboot)

In 2014, Peace Action Montgomery launched the Fund our Communities Bring the War Dollars Home campaign. Over 50 member groups, representing labor, civil rights, immigrants rights, environmental, political and social justice organizations were part of the coalition. Congressman Jamie Raskin, who was a State Senator at the time, was a key supporter.

The coalition challenged Lockheed Martin's request for corporate tax breaks; generated a Dear Colleague Letter from Maryland General Assembly Members to their Congressional Delegation about the ballooning military budget; and got resolutions passed in Maryland municipalities. And, most importantly, the coalition educated thousands of Marylanders on the tradeoffs in increasing the military budget.

Today (2024), we are seeing school systems making difficult layoff decisions while the military budget has continued to increase.  Coalition members have realized this advocacy work is now even more important than ever.

We don’t have a spending problem,

we have a military spending problem.
